The Summit, organized and conducted by youth themselves, will use hands-on experiential learning activities to help participants develop knowledge and empathy — as well as the confidence and tools to take action in their schools and communities …to help them “become the change they wish to see in the world” …to inspire them to make hope possible for a better world.
The Summit is open to high school youth aged 15-18 years. Registration is $20 and youth can register by contacting Melissa Koftinoff, Summit Coordinator: melissakoftinoff@hotmail.com
Topics include poverty-disease cycle, human rights, armed conflict, children and war, food security, action skills training and project planning.
Participants will stay overnight together on Saturday.
The community coalition is made up of Canadian Red Cross, Selkirk College, Mir Centre for Peace, School District #8, and Columbia Basin Trust. We believe youth have a great deal to offer in the way of ideas, inspiration and skills to create a better world. Taking action on global and humanitarian issues helps youth gain confidence and skills as leaders and engaged citizens. Youth are not just the ’leaders of tomorrow’—they can be leaders today.
The style of the Summit is based on a Lower Mainland event that the Canadian Red Cross has run very successfully for 25 years.
