The Nelson and District Youth Centre is seeking 12 youth to participate in our Connect 4: Youth to Work Program. (proudly supported by the Government of Canada’s Youth Skills Link Program). Youth will participate in a 22 week, 30 hours per week, job readiness program. In addition to the great skill and work experience participants will be paid minimum wage for 30 hours per week for the 22 weeks. Daycare and travel subsidies available.

Duties:
The youth who will be selected to participate in this project must be in need of assistance with breaking into the job market and/or holding a job in Nelson. This project is designed to prepare youth for the local job market by providing youth with paid work experience.
Youth will participate in:
-work experience placements and community projects
-certification-based training (example: foodsafe, first aid, forklift operator or flagging)
-engaging and dynamic skills development workshops and job search training workshop, including a back to work action plan.
-ongoing feedback and self-evaluation processes

Requirements:
The applicant must:
-be a youth between the age of 15 and 30, eligible to work in Canada.
-not be enrolled in school
-not be in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits; and
-be in need of assistance in order to overcome employment barriers.

Application Procedure:

Interested applicants who meet the program requirements must be willing to commit to 22 weeks at 30 hours per week. First intake is now open, participants start January 23, 2012 to June 23, 2012. Second intake starts June 18 and participants start June 25, 2012 and ends November 23, 2012.

2) Contact NDYC Skills Link staff at 250-352-5656 to arrange for an interview.
